(Source: AFP) While Chief Executive Office Elon Musk was in Japan recently, he made some off-hand comments (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-09-08/tesla-signals-it-may-work-with-toyota-again-on-vehicle.html) about possible partnerships with automakers in the years to come, specifically Toyota.
Musk said, “If you look out maybe two or three years from now, I would not be surprised if there was a significant deal with Toyota and Tesla,” Musk, Tesla’s chief executive officer, told reporters yesterday in Tokyo.
It seemed to cause a minor stir with Toyota, as it released a statement some five or six days later saying "it has no new or pending battery projects under discussion with Tesla Motors."
However, I was on The Detroit Bureau doing some research for a digital manufacturing article on Automation World (http://www.automationworld.com) and came across Toyota's announcement of the new C-HR crossover concept.
A couple ideas popped out from Paul Eidenstein's article (http://www.thedetroitbureau.com/2014/09/toyota-teases-c-hr-crossover-concept/), "Toyota Teases C-HR Crossover Cocept":
Among other things, we learn from its news release, the Toyota C-HR marries “a new design language with an engaging driving experience and a hybrid powertrain.”
