http://www.electricvehicleparade.com/storage/post-images/131218marybarrajpg.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION= 1405180379193GM is having a tough year and now they hired anti electric car executive for the top spot at Cadillac, according to Inside EVs.As I was contributing to a discussion on the Fox Valley Electric Auto Association's (https://www.facebook.com/FoxValleyElectricAutoAssociation)message board, I saw this alarming post on Inside EVs, "Anti-EV Infiniti Boss Resigns and Heads To GM? (http://insideevs.com/guy-doesnt-like-evs-doesnt-make-it-as-infiniti-boss-go-figure/)" Specifically, Johan de Nysschen will be in charge of Cadillac shortly and has a great track record in the luxury space.
However, I noticed that the last Ramone died today, Tommy Ramone (http://www.theguardian.com/music/2014/jul/12/tommy-ramone-last-original-member-ramones-dies-62), and Nysschen has said some silly things about electric vehicles and is completely against electric car drivetrain adoption. So another post in the "I'm Against it" series.
I questioned GM's leadership about a month ago when other automakers, namely Nissan and BMW, were warming up to the open patent statements from Tesla Motors.
Here are Nyssche's greatest hits when he was with Audi (before Infiniti) (via Inside EVs):
“The Chevrolet Volt is a car for Idiots…No one is going to pay a $15,000 premium for a car that competes with a (Toyota) Corolla. So there are not enough idiots who will buy it.”
“Mass electrification” of the vehicles on American roads could lead to problems like a strained electric grid. Large-scale utilization of electric vehicles will require massive investment in new power stations that are much cleaner than the ones in use in the U.S. today.”
“(EVs) could merely shift greenhouse gas emissions from the tailpipes of cars to the smokestacks of coal-burning utilities. That’s not just my opinion. The California Air Resource Board this past April concluded that electric vehicles presently are second only to hydrogen cars in greenhouse gas impact when measured on a well-to-wheel basis”
What is this cat going to do with the ELR after this year? Yikes.
So all the Ramones are gone. Rest in peace Tommy Ramone....and I'm Against It.
