Honda a few days ago announced that it would extend the lease on a used Fit EV for two years at $199 per month. That’s with no money down, unlimited mileage, routine maintenance and collision coverage. Moreover, those attractive leases on used Fit EVs—if declined by the current driver—will be extended to new customers. As a result, a used Honda Fit EV could become the least expensive small electric car on the market.

The greater significance of this move by Honda is that the EV market will soon experience a sizable wave of used electric cars rolling off leases held by early adopters in 2012 and 2013. There are only about 1,100 Honda Fit EVs on the road, but more than 75,000 Nissan LEAFs (http://www.electricvehiclechat.com/nissan-leaf), many of them acquired in a lease, that will be brought back to dealerships in the next three years.
